Trying to Get it All in

As usual when Tricia and I travel, we try to get every thing we can possible get in, in. We took a tour of the Trinity Church (National Treasures ring a bell? Well we think) and also took a train out to Salem (Witch country). We would have gone to Plymouth, but everybody just said it was a rock and not worth the trip. Salem however was quite interesting and they were starting to get into full swing for the Halloween Season.

Quack Quack

Of course our feet were tired from all of our walking, so we did the touristy thing again and jumped on the Duck Boats. Tricia was very entertained by this and couldn't wait to board.

Harvard

Saturday we took the train to Harvard to walk around their beautiful campus. We were asked if we brought the kids home T-shirts from the Red Sox game. We of course answered no and told them the kids got Harvard Tees instead. Wow, here's to hoping.

They Lost so We Won

So it turned out the Sox lost game 3 which made tickets available for Game 4. Because everybody expected a win in Game 3, well.....it made Game 4 tickets easier to get. Our ticket broker hooked us up with Tickets.........wait for it.........yes the photos tell it all.......3 rows above the Sox dugout. Even Tricia had a good time and how could you not. Besides ducking foul balls which was entertaining, we had a blast with the Sox fans. They are great, a lot of fun, especially when you figure in some beers and a thick Bawstan Accent. And to top it off the Sox won it in the bottom of the 9th.

Fenway Park the "Tour"

I knew going out for this trip that the Boston Red Sox would be in town. It turned out that they were there for game 3 of the ALDS against the Angels. Standing room only tickets were going for $290 and well.......that was out of the question. So we took the $12 tour of course I was in hog heaven. Fenway Park dates back to 1912 had for sports junky like myself had tons of little things that make the park special........well at least for guys I guess. You'll see a picture of a long bar that was put in using an the lanes of an old bowling alley. They also have 1 red seat out in right field bleachers that indicates the where the longest home run in that park was hit (ironically it hit a guy from New York). It still boasts a scoreboard that is changed by 2 guys that was once they enter the area can't get out until after the game (by the way, no ac or heat). Of course the Green Monster which you can see Tricia sitting on is the wall in left field. Fenway is the 3rd smallest ball park to the Athletics and the Pirates. It still has many of the original tiny narrow seats in the lower area that probably won't be replaced (even though they are hard, narrow, with chipping paint and uncomfortable) because they would lose 3000 seats to update them. The photo of the baseball is the ball that the Red Sox and their first baseman couldn't agree upon ownership of after their first World Series in some 88 years. So it now resides in the Hall of Fame.

Get In My Belly

Man, the eats in Boston very fantastic. We of course had some terrific clam chowder and lobster tails and I don't even like clam chowder. We had lunch at Cheers and I had an "eNormous burger" I was disappointed because nobody there new my name. The highlight had to be Giacaomo's. It's a little (ten table) mom and pop shop that came highly recommeded by Rachel Ray. Thanks Rachel. The lobster ravioli was unbelievable and only topped by the butternut squash ravioli that Tricia had. We were than sent to Modern Pastry for hand filled Canolis. Yes, I can honestly say that I put a few pounds on during this trip.

Great Views

We were just a bit early for fall colors being on, but it didn't seem to matter. The city had so much to offer.

Not Just Cementeries

Boston did have a few very cool cementeries with lots of historical figures, but it is definitely much more than that. It had a ton of monuments like Bunker Hill. You can actually walk to the top of this via a staircase that circles the inside. We got about half way and turned around. There was a school group in there and the noise was truly unbearable.....or we were winded

Boston Part 1

This year the annual Golden Corral convention was held in Boston. This was a first visit for both Tricia and I and we thoroughly enjoyed the trip, the city, and welllllllll, the conference too. Thanks to Bruce, Rita, Carlin and family for watching Grayce and Mason. Since I've been a slacker and haven't posted in a while, I'll have to post a few times to give you some shots of the trip. 1st, let me say that Boston was terrific. The people are friendly, the city is safe and very clean. We bought subway passes for the week and just cruised everywhere. We would definitely recommend Boston to you if you are looking for a vacation destination. Our first day we did the tourist thing and walked the red line. The red line is actually a painted red line or a line of red bricks and takes you to roughly 16 historical sites. We opted to take the walking tour with the Parks Service. You will see our guide dressed the part to boot.
